What is Adenoid? ; It is a lymphoid tissue located between the nose and throat. Every newborn baby has adenoids. Adenoid catches bacteria and virus type germs coming from the nose during infancy and childhood. After the age of five, it begins to shrink and loses its function, and disappears at the age of ten. In some cases, this dysfunctional structure that starts to grow causes developmental delay in children. When the adenoid is larger than normal or inflamed very often, it causes disease.
Symptoms of Adenoid;
- Difficulty in breathing through the nose (large conchae in the nose also creates the same problem and should be considered in the differential diagnosis)
- Continuous mouth breathing (the child who does not breathe through the nose breathes through the mouth. Since the air entering the mouth is not filtered and humidified, the dirty and germy air outside causes a very frequent infection in the throat).

Problems Caused by Adenoid;

Diagnosis and Treatment of Adenoid;
It is evaluated by a good anamnesis (complaint story), ear, nose and throat physical examination, endoscopic examination, and nasal film. If the adenoid is enlarged due to inflammation or other reasons, it is treated with medication depending on the cause and the result is obtained. If the complaints continue and the physical examination does not show shrinkage in the adenoid, surgery is decided.
Adenoid Surgery;
Surgery is performed with general anesthesia. Adenoid is operated through the mouth. He is discharged on the same day or one day later, with recommendations and a prescription.
